Columns are a device that can be found in almost all public places: in cafes, shopping centers, parks, trains. They settled for a long time in the houses of music lovers and movie connoisseurs. Manufacturers are responding to demand by offering original models. Sometimes, you think that you are looking at a flowerpot or a cute figurine, and there is a hidden column. Sometimes they can be in the most unexpected places, for example, in a cup.

Column design

The sound resonance depends on the speaker case. An ill-conceived shape can produce extraneous sounds, for example, rattling. In addition to aesthetic functions, the body is responsible for the following tasks:

  • removes acoustic short circuit;
  • improves the quality of low-frequency sound;
  • separates the speakers, which prevents sound rejection.

It is important for industrial designers to consider the shape, body material, and how all the parts will be positioned when developing a speaker prototype. The optimal forms for high-quality acoustics are:

  • rectangle;
  • trapezoid or pyramid;
  • ellipse.

Therefore, in all recording studios and cinemas, it is definitely not possible to see speakers in the shape of an animal or a shoe. Designers use all their creativity for speakers intended for home use. In terms of materials, wood and plastic are preferred.

The main element in any speaker is the speakers. They are the ones who reproduce sound waves. They are divided into:

  • low-frequency (subwoofers) sound in the range of 20-120 Hz;
  • mid-frequency – sound up to 5 kHz;
  • high-frequency (tweeters) – the highest sounds, from 2 to 20 kHz.

Each active-type speaker has an amplifier, without it the sound is too quiet. If there is no built-in amplifier, then it is connected as a separate device.

The evolution of speaker design

Speaker manufacturers are trying to meet the high expectations of consumers and fit into the trends dictated by manufacturers of other gadgets. For many years, speakers have been on the market that can be listened to in the bathroom without fear of moisture getting into them. For example, the iShower Bluetooth Speaker model can be installed in just a shower stall. It is attached to the wall with reliable vacuum suction cups.
