High poly modeling

High-poly modeling is widely used in cinematography, as well as in the development of 3d characters, in the process of creating games using three-dimensional technologies (3d games) and 3d cartoons. Low poly modeling is used to create characters - heroes of games “without three-dimensional space”.

Why do you need high poly modeling?

The use of 3D modeling and 3D graphics in the modern world is limitless. To create ultra-precise models, such type of modeling as high-poly modeling is used – creating exact copies of an object. Modern 3d technologies allow you to create almost any object, regardless of the level of complexity: from decorative elements, furniture fittings and accessories to plastic cases and equipment parts.

In this case, you can use it as an already existing 3d model, which is adjusted for your specific needs, or you can create your own unique three-dimensional model. However, if you need to create an ultra-precise model, then high-poly modeling (creating exact copies of an object) comes to the rescue.

There are two main properties of all high-poly models:

  • the most accurate transfer of the shape and geometry of the modeled object;
  • the final render (rendering of the final result) is carried out with a heavy load.

Applying high poly modeling

High-poly modeling is widely used in cinematography, as well as in the development 3d characters, in the process of creating games using three-dimensional technologies (3d games) and 3d cartoons. Low poly modeling is used to create characters – heroes of games “without three-dimensional space”.

Quite often, high-poly models are called models with a large number of polygons, but this definition is not entirely correct. If we take a low-poly model as a basis, and then, using special programs for creating 3D models, divide it into a large number of polygons, then you can get a fairly high-quality high-poly model.

You can also increase the number of polygons by dividing them, but after that it is very difficult to decrease the number of polygons if necessary. The reverse procedure is rather complicated. It is possible to reduce the number of polygons by enlarging them or by combining polygons with each other. However, after this procedure, the resulting model will most likely look incorrect, as a result of the almost complete lack of model detail.

Creation of exact copies of an object is a complex process and requires the expenditure of a large amount of resources, the availability of powerful computer equipment and the constant preservation of the work performed in specialized 3d programs.

CREATING EXACT COPIES OF THE OBJECT

Levels of detail for high-poly models:

  • the first is the basic level;
  • the second – a more precise definition of the geometry and shape of the object;
  • the third – a clear detailing of the object – splitting into a larger number of polygons.

When should you use high poly modeling?

High-poly models are the most accurate copies of the original object. The creation of such models is necessary in the case of ultra-precise modeling of the object, or in the event that the modeled object is planned to be scaled (zoom in and out).

If there is no need to scale the object, you can confidently use low poly modeling or 3D modeling with an average number of polygons.

When creating exact copies of an object, 3D sculpting technology is sometimes used – the creation of volumetric objects based on specialized software products for working with 3D graphics, with the help of software tools which can be used to perform various actions on a volumetric object as if “sculptures were working with clay.”

High poly modeling software

Modeling to create ultra-precise volumetric objects can be carried out on the basis of the following software products:

  • Autodesk 3D Max;
  • ZBrush;
  • topoGun;
  • Silo;
  • SharpConstruct;
  • Sculptris;
  • Rhino;
  • 3D-Coat (3D-Brush);
  • Modo;
  • JDPaint 5.55 RUS;
  • Freeform;
  • CB model pro;
  • Blender;
  • Autodesk Mudbox;
  • Autodesk Maya.

So, high-poly modeling is the creation of the most realistic 3d models of any complexity level with ultra-precise detailing. Today, almost all commercials, cartoons, films and 3D games, where the photorealism of objects is important, cannot do without high-poly modeling technologies, which in turn requires high-quality software and hardware equipment, considerable experience in working with 3D graphics and large time costs …

KLONA company carries out the creation of 3D models of any complexity, using high-poly and low-poly modeling technologies. And also carries out the creation of a 3d character and object visualization of objects … If you are just taking the first steps towards the development of your startup, you need the KLONA company. Loyal pricing policy and an individual approach to each project is what distinguishes us from others.
